{"id":2309,"date":"2018-04-19T21:24:29","date_gmt":"2018-04-20T04:24:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.villagesbocceclub.com\/?page_id=2309"},"modified":"2022-05-16T13:18:08","modified_gmt":"2022-05-16T20:18:08","slug":"faqs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/villagesbocce.vgcc.club\/?page_id=2309","title":{"rendered":"FAQs"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6><u>FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS<\/u><\/h6>\n<p><strong><em>Why does the referee sometimes return the pallino?<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>The pallino must pass the center red-line.\u00a0 If not, the referee throws it to the opposing team to throw the pallino.\u00a0 However, the <u>original\u00a0<\/u>team still throws the first ball.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Why does the referee use a paddle<\/em><\/strong>?<br \/>\nThe paddle speaks volumes &#8211; It lets the playing end of the court know which team is closest and tells the opposing team to be ready to throw.<br \/>\nFor players watching the game from the other end of the court, the paddle lets them know who should be throwing.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>I sometimes cannot see the pallino, what should I do?<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>Let the referee know by asking them to point it out to you.<br \/>\nAlso OK to ask the referee to point to the ball that is in.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>What should I do if I think the referee is going to miscount the balls<\/em><\/strong>?<br \/>\nFirst off \u2013 never argue with the referee, tell your captain quickly and he\/she will ask for a measurement if needed.<br \/>\nAnd, by the way, you can never tell from the far end of the court.\u00a0The referee has a much better view than you do. \u00a0If you are at the near end of the court and close to the balls get your captain\u2019s attention <u>quickly<\/u>.\u00a0 Once the referee calls the score \u2013 it\u2019s too late \u2013 frame is over.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>What is a forfeit?<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nA match is forfeited when a team has less than four players ready to play at the scheduled start of the match time.<br \/>\nThat team then \u2018forfeits\u2019 the right to play and loses two games to the other team who can then record two wins. If one game has already been played that score still counts.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>What is the difference between \u2018match\u2019 vs \u2018game\u2019?<\/em><\/strong>\u2018Match\u2019 consists of two games<br \/>\n\u2018Game\u2019 is 40 minutes of play for tournaments and 60 minutes of play for play-offs.<br \/>\nFrame\u2019 is 8 balls thrown and the winning number(s) recorded.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>When time runs out during the last frame why are the balls that are already on the court not counted?<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>In the last frame all 8 balls must be thrown or rolling to be counted.\u00a0 If a ball is still in the rack, or in a player\u2019s hand, the score for that frame is not counted.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>What is a \u2018roll-off\u2019?<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>A roll-off is needed when a game ends in a tie after the last frame.<br \/>\nA frame consists of 8 balls so all 8 balls have to be thrown or rolling and if the count results in a tie \u2013 a one ball roll-off will determine the winner of the game.<br \/>\nThe team that scored last to create the tie gets the pallino and throws their \u2018one-ball\u2019. They also choose the court end (or court, if vacant, during a playoff).\u00a0 Captains may select any team member to throw in the roll-off.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Why should I care about the foul line?<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>You can\u2019t step on or over the line.\u00a0 First a warning, then your ball may be removed from play if you do it again.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Can I help my opponents with the scoreboard?<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>No! Never!\u00a0 That\u2019s their job.\u00a0 If you put it up, they could suddenly remember and put it up again.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>How long does a tournament game last?<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>Two games in a match, each lasting 40 minutes.\u00a0 Playoff games are one game only for 60 minutes.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Is there a break between games?<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nYes, there is a mandatory 10 minute break between the two games.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>How many balls do I get to throw?<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nTwo balls only.\u00a0 Never more, never less.<br \/>\nKeep track and stay alert to be aware of when it is your turn to throw.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Why does the referee sometimes return the pallino?
